Privacy policy

Last updated 5 November 2026

Surreal is a RuneScape clan, run by volunteers as a hobby. This page says what this site collects about you, why, and what you can do about it. We don't sell your data and we don't show ads.

Who's responsible

The clan's staff run this site and are responsible for your data. To reach us about anything on this page, email privacy at clansurreal dot com or message a staff member on our Discord.

What we collect

• Your account: username, email address and your sign-in details, which we store securely. If you add a passkey we only keep its public key; your fingerprint, face or PIN stays on your device.
• Your profile: your RuneScape names, picture, and anything you choose to add, such as a bio, location and time zone.
• Your game stats: levels, XP and recent in-game activity, from Jagex's public services.
• Your time in the clan: your join application, rank, events, competitions, points, kudos, and notes staff keep to look after members.
• Discord, if you link it: your Discord name and picture, and how active you are in the Surreal server. We never see what you write or say, your DMs, your other servers or your Discord password.
• How the site gets used: which pages and features signed-in members use.
• Security records: your IP address and browser details, to spot and stop misuse.

Why we use it

We use it to run your account and the clan's activities, send the emails you need, and keep the site secure. We do this because it's needed to give you what you signed up for, and because the clan has a legitimate interest in running itself and protecting its members. Anything optional, like a bio or linking Discord, is your choice, and you can remove it.

What other people can see

The member list, tracker and competition results are public, so anyone can see your main RuneScape name, picture, rank, join date, game stats and clan activity, plus your bio if your profile is public. Your email, location, time zone, other RuneScape names, kudos messages and staff notes aren't public. Clan staff can see more than other members, because they need it to run the clan.

Services we use

We don't sell your data. We use other companies to run the site, and they only handle what they need to do that:

• Hetzner for hosting, in the United States, so your data is stored there even if you live elsewhere.
• Amazon Web Services for sending email.
• Cloudflare for bot protection and some site files.
• Jagex for game data and player pictures.
• Discord for linking your account and clan roles.

Cookies and browser storage

We use cookies to keep you signed in and secure. The site can't work without them, so we don't ask first. Your browser also remembers small preferences, such as your theme, and those stay on your device. Our bot protection may use similar storage on the sign-in pages.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and clan history for as long as you have an account. Leaving the clan doesn't delete your account; ask us if you want that. Usage and activity records are removed after about a year or less. We keep security records for as long as we need them to protect the site, and deleted data can stay in backups for a while.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Much of it you can change yourself in your account settings, and you can unlink Discord there at any time. Contact us using the details above and we'll respond within a month. We may keep what we need to deal with abuse. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to your data protection regulator; in the UK that's the Information Commissioner's Office.

Age

Surreal is for people aged 13 or over, the same as RuneScape's minimum age. If you think a younger child has an account, please tell us and we'll remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
